When a centre crop works — and when it does not
ToClips fills the target frame from the centre of the source. That is exactly right for the most common long-form layout: a single speaker framed in the middle of a landscape shot, such as a talking-head video, a webcam recording or a solo podcast camera.
It is the wrong tool for wide two-person shots, screen recordings with important content at the edges, or slides with text across the whole frame. For those, keep the clip in 16:9, or reframe the source in your editor before uploading.

Frequently asked questions
Does the crop follow the speaker?
Not yet. The crop is always centred. If your subject is off to one side, keep 16:9 for that clip, or reposition the shot before uploading.
What resolutions do I get?
9:16 renders at 1080×1920, 3:4 at 1080×1440, 4:5 at 1080×1350, 1:1 at 1080×1080 and 16:9 at 1920×1080, encoded as H.264 MP4 with AAC audio.
Will it add black bars instead of cropping?
No. The video is scaled to fill the target ratio and the overflow is cropped, so there are no letterbox bars.
